| Description: | Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) has been affected by the installation of industrial projects in the name of development. The murders of environmental defenders in the region have only been increasing due to the imposition of these projects that harm Nature, accelerating climate change. For this reason, LAC countries signed the Escazú Agreement, a regional climate governance instrument whose aim is to promote access rights, as well as the protection of environmental defenders. The objective of this article is to analyze the Escazú Agreement and its progress regarding the protection of environmental defenders in Mexico. Despite having entered into force last year, no progress has been seen in the protection of these defenders of Nature in the country, since the murder of these people has not decreased. América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) ha sido afectada con la instalación de proyectos industriales en nombre del desarrollo. Los asesinatos a defensores ambientales en la región, solo han ido en aumento por la imposición de estos proyectos que afectan a la Naturaleza, acelerando el cambio climático. Por esta razón, los países de ALC firmaron el Acuerdo de Escazú, un instrumento de gobernanza climática regional cuyo objetivo es promover los derechos de acceso, así como la protección de defensores ambientales. El objetivo de este artículo es el de analizar el Acuerdo de Escazú y sus avances con respecto a la protección de los defensores ambientales en México. A pesar de haber entrado en vigor el año pasado, no se han visto avances en la protección de estos defensores de la Naturaleza en el país, pues el asesinato a estas personas no ha disminuido. |
